Are awnings Waterproof?
Awning fabrics are water repellent not waterproof. Water-repellent awning and patio canopies will allow you to enjoy your deck or patio during most weather conditions that it is safe to be outside. Awnings are often not waterproof in severe weather conditions and extended periods of wet weather.
How long will my awning last?
With the proper maintenance, an awning lasts on average 10-12 seasons. There are a number of factors that can affect its life.
What type of maintenance will my awning need?
Your awning should not need any maintenance the first 5 seasons. After that, you may need to wash and waterproof your awning. Also, once during its life, the seams will typically need to be re-sewn.
Should I call each season to schedule service?
No need to call us unless you have a special circumstance that affects the timing of your service. (Such as: roof work, painting, etc.) In order to keep your service costs down, we will try to service all of our customers by geographic area. Of course weather plays a large part in our schedules and accommodating our customers.
How do I store my retractable awning in the winter?
By design, the awning is self-storing when retracted. Many owners of retractable awnings remove the loose hanging valance for winter storage, while others do nothing more than keep the unit retracted and bring the crank handle in. Some owners use their retractable awnings all year long!
Can I keep my awnings up all year round?
This depends on the particular design and application of your awning. We will be happy to review this with you during the consultation.
Do my awnings help me save on cooling costs?
Yes according to the U.S department of energy window awnings can reduce solar heat gain by 65%-77%. Also, in a hot year awnings can reduce cooling energy by more than 25%, this could be as much or more than $200.00 a year.
Can my awning be recovered?
Yes. Your same frame can be used and a new cover can be made to fit your existing frame.
Why do my awnings leak and they were just installed?
Brand new awnings may take a few rains before they before the seams are sealed. The holes created during stitching process often need filled with sediment before they become waterproof.
